BCS, the global data centre consultancy, has expanded its Utilities Division to include new service lines in response to changes in the fast-moving marketplace and as part of its ongoing growth strategy.
Cameron Thompson has been promoted to Head of Utilities with overall responsibility for providing further support to BCS’ existing and new critical infrastructure clients. He joined BCS earlier this year as Team Lead and has previously held senior roles at Ethical Power and Cast Consultancy.
In recognition of the increasing importance of available and sustainable power to the ongoing growth in the sector, particularly to support AI adoption, he will be overseeing a number of new services. These include: front end feasibility studies to support new developments and/or planning applications; power procurement; support in Gate power applications; advise on connections reform and implement creative, alternative ways to avoid grid constraints including solar, BESS, hydrogen and gas.
Cameron and the team will continue to focus on implementing strategies that generate cost savings and efficiencies for organisations through specialist advice on the choice and delivery of utilities including power, water, gas, drainage telecoms and district heating. This will include commercial modelling, legislative and regulatory requirements, technical capabilities, as well as consideration for sustainability and decarbonisation.
Cameron Thompson comments: “Our key objectives are to continue supporting our clients as they navigate the increasing need for cost effective and sustainable power options to ensure they can continue to maximise the opportunities of AI and the fast-growing global digitalisation whilst ensuring they meet ESG targets and navigate the constraints of grid power. These changes in the marketplace are calling for fresh thinking and our team is primed to deliver.”
James Hart, CEO at BCS, said: “As the demand for datacentres continues to grow, so too must our efforts to ensure that this growth is sustainable and responsible, balancing technological progress with environmental stewardship and utilities play a major part in this. The appointment of Cameron and the expansion of the team along with our new service lines underlines our commitment to helping clients navigate this path to deliver optimum benefits and positive outcomes for our global community.”
