A Nottinghamshire haulier has invested £750,000 to update its fleet with five new tractor units and four new trailers, as demand for its services continues to grow.
Farrell Transport, which is based in Staunton in the Vale, near Newark, has taken delivery of the first four of five Mercedes-Benz Actros 2551 LS Giga Space tractor units.
In addition, the business has added four SDC 3-axle curtain-side trailers with tail lifts, to enhance its capabilities across general haulage and bulk pallet network operations.
More additions to the business’ fleet are expected to arrive across the autumn months, and one of the trailers has been decked out in a striking dual livery to mark the 20th anniversary of Farrell Transport becoming a shareholder member of the Wolverhampton-based Pallet-Track network.
Farrell Transport senior manager Andrew Spencer said the latest investment reaffirms the company’s long-standing commitment to quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
He said: “These new vehicles will help us modernise our fleet, which is a key focus for our team. The fifth of these is likely to be our flagship vehicle when it arrives, as it will be the new model of the Actros.
“These vehicles have moved on significantly since our last upgrade in terms of reliability and maintenance, offering more on-road time for vehicles we need to work hard 24 hours a day, five days a week.”
Farrell Transport favours asset ownership over leasing and maintains its entire fleet from its own fully stocked workshop and rolling brake tester, all run by highly skilled mechanics Steve Smith and Mark Ridge, who were joined by the firm’s first apprentice, Daikin Wayman, earlier this year.
Andrew said: “Owning the assets ourselves means we don’t have to worry about returns and maintenance and this new generation of vehicles will give our mechanics more respite.
“We’re very proud of our workshop team, who work exceptionally hard looking after our fleet – and start work as the network starts at 5.30am, too.”
Looking ahead, Andrew said the ongoing relationship with Pallet-Track – which accounts for a high proportion of Farrell Transport’s business activity complimented by its general haulage fleet and warehouse operations – will continue to grow.
“This will be our third dual branded Pallet-Track livery, and we haven't finished yet – we’re 20 years in and it is a hugely valued partnership,” he added.
